There is a quiet border post to Botswana at Bray. It crosses the Molopo river which flows only every 7 to 10 years. In such a case the border post may be closed for up to 4 days.
The border post is used mainly by local pedestrians from either side. The closest towns on the Botswana side are Werda (55 km) and Khakhea (95 km). At the time of our visit on a Sunday morning, the Coetzee family who farms in Botswana, came through to attend the local NG church in Bray.
But once a year there is a major event happening in Bray. That is the 'Bray July' horse race - although it takes place in June. The normal border post hours of 7:30 to 16:00 are then extended for as long as necessary. People come from far away to participate, to watch, maybe gamble, or just to do something exciting. The bars in Bray are then also kept open 24 hours.
